Australia Post operates one of the country’s largest retail networks with over 4,300 Post Offices supporting more than 227 million customer visits a year, across banking, passport photography, currency exchange and everyday postal services. Rolling out POST+, its new point-of-sale system, meant equipping 17,000 staff in widely dispersed locations to be competent and confident from the moment the hardware went live.

The challenge

A change of this scale had to land cleanly across a diverse, geographically spread workforce:

  • Deliver personalised learning to audiences with very different roles and starting points.
  • Build confidence and positivity through the transition, not just system knowledge.
  • Ensure staff could use the new system competently and adopt the new behaviours on day one.

The POST+ Strategy

  • An 8-week learner journey designed to cut training time, using gamification and audience-specific content to strip out generic filler.
  • Repeated chances for learners to give in-flight feedback on their confidence ahead of the change.
  • A seamless scheduling tool built into the journey for booking VILT and arranging WAS sessions.
  • A searchable resource library whose deep search returned accurate answers fast.
  • Simulation-based gameplay which scored accuracy, efficiency and correct service processes, with learners replaying levels to commit them to memory.
  • Advanced xAPI reporting capturing granular data at every touchpoint, feeding dashboards that kept stakeholders informed and surfaced issues early.
  • A staged rollout of ~100 outlets a week. With hardware swapped overnight, teams went live on the new POS the next morning with no fallback to the old system.

Measured against a comparable rollout, POST+ delivered on every front. Staff trained faster, their confidence held from first session to last, and they came back to the gamified content again and again to sharpen their skills.

30% Reduction in training time

POST+ proved efficient enough to cut training from an expected 24 hours per participant to 16, saving around 6,000 hours and substantial costs.

86% Sustained sentiment rating

A confidence rating of 4.3 out of 5. Sentiment was captured at every stage of the journey; across the 10,000+ participants who accessed the pathway it never dropped below an average of 4 out of 5.

Proven capability

Over 70% of the 9,000 users who completed the gamified module replayed each level up to six times, improving their score with every attempt.

10× Confidence

VILT and work-and-study evaluations measured learner confidence before and after the sessions, showing a marked improvement.
